BC NDP BUDGET: PCA Welcomes Infrastructure Spending But Questions Higher Taxes

Vancouver (Sept. 11, 2017) – The Progressive Contractors Association of Canada (PCA) welcomes an increase in infrastructure spending of close to $1 billion to $14.6 billion, in today’s BC government budget update.

“Increasing the province’s investment in infrastructure is an important step in the right direction,” said Rieghardt van Enter, Regional Director, BC, for the Progressive Contractors Association of Canada. “We’re eager to work with the government to plan and build needed infrastructure and provide new opportunities for BC’s skilled workforce.”

The BC budget update also includes plans to increase the corporate tax rate by one percent to 12 percent starting January 1, 2018.

“This is not the way to attract investment and encourage industry to create jobs in BC,” added van Enter. “We believe the tax increase will have a negative impact on the investment climate in this province.”

With offices in BC, Alberta and Ontario, PCA is the voice of progressive unionized employers in Canada’s construction industry.
