The Progressive Contractors Association of Canada reports it has seen “excellent early momentum on all fronts” since opening its doors in Ontario this past December.

PCAC member companies employ over 20,000 skilled workers across Canada, represented primarily by the Christian Labour Association of Canada (CLAC).

As of February, 2010, nine companies have joined PCAC in Ontario, including several of the largest and most successful CLAC-affiliated contractors in the province. The association’s top Ontario priority at the moment is membership recruitment.

Sean Reid, PCA’s regional director in Ontario, says the three primary issues the association plans to focus on in Ontario are access to work, access to labour and safety and productivity.

PCA has made some progress in these areas by initiating strategic relationships with the Pre-Apprenticeship Training Institute and the Youth Apprenticeship Standards Council and has worked closely with CLAC on the launch of a new Labour-Management Health and Safety Committee, affiliated with Ontario’s Infrastructure Health and Safety Association.
