PCA Succeeds in Push for Hard Copies of Skilled Trades Certificates of Qualification

Toronto (July 24, 2023) – The Progressive Contractors Association of Canada (PCA) welcomes today’s announcement from Skilled Trades Ontario that it will begin issuing physical certificates of qualification and wallet cards to thousands of certified skilled trades workers.

“Employers and the public need to be able to verify workers’ credentials easily when they are on a job site. We’re pleased that Skilled Trades Ontario listened to industry and will be issuing physical certificates,” said Stephen Hamilton, Director of Public Affairs, Ontario at PCA. “PCA looks forward to continuing to work with the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Skills Development and Skilled Trades Ontario to make transformational change that will make Ontario a leader in the skilled trades.”

“Skilled trades workers invest years of hard work to achieve certification, while our member companies invest time and energy into training. Skilled Trades Ontario issuing copies of its certification, represents a step towards improving the perception of the trades and ensuring the skilled trades finally have the same status as other professional designations,” added Hamilton.
