PCA Welcomes Ontario PC Party Focus on Open Construction Tendering

Toronto – Progressive Contractors Association of Canada (PCA) today welcomed the inclusion of Open Tendering as a central issue within the Ontario PC Party’s just released policy whitepaper, “Paths to Prosperity: Flexible Labour Markets”.

“Restrictive construction tendering monopolies controlled by a privileged group of Building Trades unions and their affiliated contractors are quietly costing Ontario tax payers millions in artificially inflated infrastructure costs each year,” said Sean Reid, Ontario Director of the PCA. “The Toronto District School Board and the 2015 Pan-Am Games are two high profile examples of the damage these monopolies can do. But they are just the tip of the iceberg.

“We welcome the commitment Tim Hudak, Randy Hillier and the Ontario PC Party have made to bring this important and timely issue into the public spotlight. It is time to make taxpayer funded construction work in Ontario open to all qualified workers and contractors, regardless of which union they belong to or whether they belong to any union at all.”
