PCA Urges Newly Elected Liberal Government to Get Building!

The Progressive Contractors Association of Canada (PCA) whose member companies build major capital and infrastructure projects across Canada, congratulates Mark Carney and the Liberal Party of Canada on their federal election win.

We look forward to working with the Carney government to achieve his goal of making Canada an energy superpower,” said Paul de Jong, President & CEO of PCA. “However, we know that will require a different approach, starting with a clear, objective approvals process for getting projects of national interest built without any more lengthy delays.”

During the campaign, Carney confirmed that he has no plans to change Bill C-69. Since its passage, this legislation that has led to the delay or cancellation of more than 25 major resource and infrastructure projects.

“The delay or abandonment of critical natural resource projects has cost Canadians billions in lost investment and potential jobs,” added de Jong. “Canada can no longer afford such a narrow view, that jeopardizes resource development and prevents us from building our economy, our communities and new trading partners.”

PCA will work with the new Liberal government to bring about fair labour policies that treat all contractors and workers equally, based on merit and experience, rather than their affiliation with legacy unions.
