PCA Applauds Alberta’s History-Making Recovery Plan

(June 29, 2020) – The Progressive Contractors Association of Canada (PCA), whose member companies are builders of major construction projects, welcomes Alberta’s Recovery Plan, which includes a massive $10 billion injection of infrastructure spending aimed at creating more than 50,000 jobs and reviving the province’s economy.

“It’s a bold plan that sends out a strong signal that investing in infrastructure and good paying Alberta jobs is key to rebuilding the province’s economy and future,” said Paul de Jong, President of the Progressive Contractors Association of Canada (PCA). “Our member companies are proud and ready to play a pivotal role in building projects, restoring confidence and getting as many Albertans back to work as possible.”

Alberta’s Recovery Plan is the largest infrastructure build in the province’s history and is focused on the following:

  • $10 billion in projects from building roads, bridges, overpasses, water projects, pipelines, gas lines, schools, hospitals, long term care homes for seniors, drug treatment centres, tourism infrastructure, and more;
  • Reducing the general business tax rate from 10 percent to 8 percent starting July 1 to accelerate the creation of 55,000 new full-time jobs;
  • Moving forward with construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline and accelerating the future of the natural gas industry through investment incentives.
  • Prioritizing the Skills for Jobs Taskforce and making sweeping changes to allow Canadians coming into Alberta to practice in their profession no matter where in the country they received their credentials.

“We are strong supporters of this government’s efforts to boost the skilled trades,” added de Jong. “Alberta’s changing economy will open all kinds of rewarding careers for a whole new generation in the skilled trades.”
