The Progressive Contractors Association of Canada (PCA), whose member companies help build many of Canada’s major energy, natural resource, and infrastructure projects, welcomes the agreement between Prime Minister Mark Carney and Premier Danielle Smith to advance a new Alberta bitumen pipeline capable of delivering at least one million barrels per day to Asian markets.
“We welcome this agreement because it recognizes a basic fact: Canada needs to get major projects built,” said Paul de Jong, President & CEO of PCA. “A new west coast pipeline would mean more jobs, more market access, and a stronger Canadian economy, but it has to move through a clear, predictable process that gives investors confidence.”
PCA supports efforts to designate the project as being in the national interest and move it through a more predictable and efficient approvals process. The project must also be built safely, efficiently and competitively, with all qualified Canadian contractors and workers given a fair shot.
“If we are serious about building a stronger, more resilient, and independent Canada, we have to let the best teams compete,” said de Jong. “Fair, open, and competitive procurement helps get projects built, gives workers and apprentices more opportunity, and delivers better value for taxpayers.”
PCA members are ready to bring their track record of safety, quality, and effective project delivery to the construction of this pipeline. PCA looks forward to working with the Government of Alberta, the federal government, Indigenous partners, and project proponents to help ensure the project delivers long-term benefits for Canadians.
