The Progressive Contractors Association of Canada (PCA), representing more than 140 contractors and 40,000 unionized skilled workers nationwide, welcomes the federal government’s latest round of potential nation-building projects now moving into the Major Projects Office (MPO) for accelerated review.
“After years in the planning, it’s encouraging to see these LNG, mining, and clean-power projects advancing,” said Paul de Jong, President & CEO of PCA. “Our members are ready to get shovels in the ground and help strengthen Canada’s economic and energy resilience.” PCA also welcomes the strong emphasis on Indigenous partnership and ownership, which is central to moving major developments forward in a way that is responsible, collaborative, and future-focused.
PCA is among a coalition of Indigenous, business and labour organizations who issued an open letter to Prime Minister Carney today, urging him to ensure that all qualified workers and companies get a shot at bidding on and building public projects that are essential to Canada’s economy.
“Canada has far more to gain by embracing competition, fairness and inclusion,” added de Jong. “When workers and companies get a shot at constructing nation-building projects based on their talent and qualifications - not union affiliation - that’s the kind of Canada we want to keep building.”
