The Progressive Contractors Association of Canada (PCA), whose member companies build major public, energy infrastructure and capital projects across Canada, welcomes the Government of Alberta’s announcement to lead efforts for a new pipeline to the British Columbia coast.

“We commend the Government of Alberta for its leadership role in supporting critical energy projects that will get more Canadian resources to market,” said Paul de Jong, President & CEO of the Progressive Contractors Association of Canada. “This announcement is good news for Canadian workers, the Canadian economy, and is a positive signal for long-term energy security.”

The Government of Alberta announced that it will serve as the project proponent, guiding a technical advisory group comprised of industry partners and Indigenous representatives to move forward with a West Coast pipeline proposal. A submission to the new federal Major Projects Office is anticipated in the spring of 2026. PCA welcomed recent federal announcements about streamlining approvals for projects that will help generate good jobs, and make Canada’s economy stronger and more independent.

“With our skilled workforce and one of the world’s largest proven oil reserves, pipelines are part of Canada’s effort to build its economy by getting its resources to foreign markets,” said de Jong. “We also encourage the federal government in Ottawa to further simplify its prohibitive regulatory framework, shorten approval timelines, commit to growing production, and better incentivize Indigenous investment opportunities.”

PCA launched the Let’s Get Building campaign during the recent federal election, to raise public awareness about the importance of getting nation building projects underway without further delay.

PCA believes that fostering genuine competition within the construction sector is essential to drawing investment into Canada’s major infrastructure initiatives. This means ensuring open, competitive procurement and guaranteeing that every qualified tradesperson has the opportunity to contribute to nation-building projects.
